20 curious girls visited the Institutes of Geotechnics and Statics and Dynamics

Under the motto ‘Sustainable and safe construction’, 20 pupils were able to familiarise themselves with various facets of civil and environmental engineering at this year's Girls' Day. It was all about wind energy and geotechnics - and the connection between the two.

It started creatively: small wind turbines were created with paper and scissors to playfully illustrate the principle of a wind turbine. Then it got technical - Norman Goldau explained the challenges of geotechnics and the foundation methods used for offshore wind turbines. Afterwards, the girls were able to experience live at the Institute of Geotechnics how a small model of a suction bucket sinks into the ground under negative pressure - and even lend a hand themselves

At the Institute of Statics and Dynamics, the pupils also had the opportunity to gain valuable insights into the central topics of the CRC. It was a great opportunity to raise interest in our project and inspire the next generation to explore this exciting field.
